SIGNAL ARTS CENTRE: A TAX EXEMPT BODY

Excellent news!  Signal Arts Centre a not for profit body for more than twenty years has been awarded a charity number as a tax exempt body. This is good news for our fund raising of course.

Congratulations to the Signal Executive Board members who worked very hard burrowing through the minefield of paperwork to achieve this end.  Special thanks to the very helpful and patient public servants in the Charities Section, Revenue Commissioners, Nenagh, and the Finance Department, Merrion Square who answered dozens of questions and offered excellent guidance.

MOVIE NIGHT AT SIGNAL ARTS CENTRE, MARCH 25, 2010, 7:30pm

PAN'S LABYRINTH is Alice in Wonderland for grown-ups, with the horrors of both reality and fantasy blended together into an extraordinary, spellbinding fable. Told through the eyes of a little girl whose imaginary world is inhabited by nightmarish creatures, Pan's Labyrinth is a visually imaginative and allegorical take on the fears she faced in Spain during WWII.

Tickets are 5 euros each.

ROISIN VERDON - PAINTINGS

I saw these wonderful paintings on Facebook so thought they should get a wider view.
Roisin Verdon is a staff artist at Signal and is also a hard working member of the Signal Art Society Committee.

Hello Signal Arts Centre Blog Afficionados March 21,2010

I am bringing you some visual news from Largo, Florida.  I attended a terrific exhibition of the prints of Henri Matisse at the new Tampa Museum of Modern Art.  Here are a few pics.

These prints, lift aquatints were done later in his career in the 1940's.

Matisse used many techniques in printmaking:  relief using lithography, linoleum, woodcut; intaglio using engraving, etching in drypoint, aquatint and chine colle.

Matisse print from woodcut.
